(Succession of Prof. Dr. Ulf Liebe)

at the level of Associate Professor or Assistant Professor with Tenure Track. It is a full-time position starting August 1, 2018.

The professorship is affiliated with the interdisciplinary Centre for Development and Environment (CDE) of the University of Bern and fulfills its duties both at the Department of Social Sciences and at the CDE. The professorship focuses on aspects of societal transformation towards a sustainable future. Potential areas of research include questions of consumption and sustainability, the diffusion of efficient renewable energy technologies, sustainable management of public goods and cooperation among the relevant stakeholders, environmental policy regulation to achieve sustainability goals, or the modality and impact of public sustainability communication. Aspects of the social dimension of sustainability such as global or regional development of inequality and poverty could also be a research focus. In terms of teaching duties, the professorship will contribute to the disciplinary study programs at the Department of Social Sciences as well as to the interdisciplinary programs at the CDE.

We invite applications from all social science disciplines, in particular the disciplines represented at the Department of Social Sciences. Applicants are required to hold a PhD degree in a social science discipline. Applicants at the associate professor level should have a Habilitation or an equivalent level of academic achievement. Applicants are expected to have an outstanding and internationally respected research record, significant teaching experience, and a research profile that is relevant to current areas of focus in the Department of Social Sciences and the CDE. Beneficial are advanced skills in social science methodology, experience in leading research teams and in inter- and transdisciplinary cooperation, and a track record of raising research funding.

Salary is determined by the regulations of the Canton of Bern. Employment at the assistant professor level is for the duration of up to five years; if the qualification criteria are fulfilled, the position will be transformed to a permanent associate position (Extraordinariat).
